“I started photography in 2005. I had just started a publishing company in Nelson, New Zealand, and through this we produced monthly glossy Lifestyle magazine, WildTomato. As a start-up venture, we didn’t have the resources to outsource work. I remember the first time we hired a photographer – it was a huge decision financially, we were nervous, and the result was an overwhelming disappointment. I saw the finished product and knew I could do better.
I bought a professional camera and started photographing everything – friends and family, gardens, passing cars, household items – until I had mastered lighting techniques and exposure settings to my satisfaction. After weeks of practice and literally thousands of shots, I began photographing people and products for the magazine, and my style evolved. After a few months I ventured into architecture and commercial, and now five years later I offer full-service photography.
I am passionate about Sydney’s architecture and have also been extremely fortunate to be working with luxury cruise boats in Sydney Harbour a lot this year. I have a lot of fun working with models, actors and actresses, either looking to refresh their portfolio, or to create a brand new look and break into the world of acting and modelling. Sydney is my home. I am Murray Farquhar, Professional Photographer.”
